The District Science Bowl team of Trevor Chau, Sanjay Suresh, David Jiang, Hansen Jin and Jonah Guse won their regional competition on Jan. 16 and have qualified for the National Science Bowl to be held later this spring.
The high school team is coached by MHS science teacher Erik Johnson.
Many middle school students also participated in Science Bowl Club this year. A District Science Bowl event was held to determine the three teams from Glacier Creek and Kromrey that will advance to the middle level regional Science Bowl to be held virtually on Saturday, Feb. 6. The finalists are:
Glacier Creek 1st-place team: Punitha Manne, Emerson Turner, Kriti Mitra, Siri Gangala and Addie Sloan 2nd-place team: Ethan Sanders, Jeremiah Kim, Fin Burkard, Robert Hung and Luke Zhang 3rd-place team: Akshay Manna, Arya Girirajan, Jonathan Schecher, Lauren Hare and Andrew Chen
Kromrey 1st -place team: Ryan Zhu, Owen Weisenberger, Ryan Slattery, Ian McGinley and Harry Jin 2nd-place team: Raghvi Sethi, Venkat Peddinti, Shreya Ramesh, Rishika Kommuri and Ray Feinberg 3rd-place team: Sofia Ortiz-Lunyova, Luke Latino, Oskar Siemsen and Dakshin Challa
Staff members Rita Mullen and Ruth Frawley and high school students David Jiang, Trevor Chau, Sanjay Suresh and Nihar Ballamudi served as coaches, while staff members Eric Engel, Andy Harris, Melanie Cochems, Nanci Marshall and Ben Saltzman helped run the District Science Bowl rounds.
