To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families during emergencies, it is crucial to have a clear understanding of the steps involved in the reunification process.

Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCASD) and local law enforcement have partnered to establish a straightforward and effective reunification process. In the event of an emergency evacuation, students and staff will be relocated to a secure off-site location while families will be promptly informed of the designated reunification point.

Stay Put (Work or home)

In the event of an emergency, it is crucial that parents stay put, either at home or at work and wait for further instructions. This is important for a few reasons. First, it allows law enforcement and school officials to focus on assessing the situation and determining  the best course of action to keep students and staff safe. Second, it helps to ensure that the reunification process is as smooth as possible.

When parents come to the school during an emergency, it can create chaos and confusion. It can also impede the efforts of law enforcement and school officials who are working to keep everyone safe. By staying home, parents can help to ensure that the reunification process is organized and efficient.

Stay Informed

Staying informed is another critical part of our reunification plan. In the event of an emergency, the district and police department will be providing regular updates to parents via text messages, voice calls, social media posts, our MCPASD website, and media channels. It is important that parents follow the instructions provided.

During an emergency, information can change rapidly. By staying informed, parents can ensure that they have the most up-to-date information about the situation and the reunification process. This will help to ensure that they are prepared and can make informed decisions about what to do.

It is important to note that during an emergency, there may be some delays in getting information out to parents. This is because our first priority is the safety and security of our students. However, we will do our best to provide updates as quickly and as frequently as possible.

Be Ready

Be ready is the last step of our reunification plan. During a reunification event, parents will be told when and where to pick up their student and what items they will need to bring. 

We encourage each family to send only one adult. We understand that parents may want to bring other family members with them, but we ask that they limit it to one adult. Parents and guardians will need to fill out a reunification card and show a valid ID. This is to ensure that we are releasing students to the correct person and that everyone is safe. We encourage parents to make sure that their contact information is up-to-date on infinite campus so that we can reach them in the event of an emergency. If you anticipate that a non-guardian will be picking up your children, please make sure that they are listed as an emergency contact in Infinite Campus.
