About MCPASD

Our mission is to weave the principles and work of equity, inclusion, and belonging into the fabric of every department within our school district. We recognize that creating a truly inclusive environment where all students thrive is not the responsibility of a single office or individual but a collective effort that involves every member of our educational community.

While our ultimate goal is for equity and belonging to be seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our district's operations, we recognize this is an ongoing journey. In the short term, we are committed to actively promoting and supporting equity work as a central focus of our district's mission. By doing so, we aim to create an educational environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Through these collaborative efforts, we strive to make our schools and our district a place where equity is not just an initiative but a fundamental part of our identity—creating a great place for all kids to learn, grow, and thrive.

Meet The SAFE Team

Our Student and Family Engagement (SAFE) Specialists are at the heart of our engagement efforts. Their role is crucial in bridging the gap between students, families, schools, and the community. Our SAFE Specialists empower students in their pursuit of personal success through youth-family-school-community partnerships. Their commitment is rooted in equity, anti-racist practices, and restorative approaches, with the goal of instilling these values in our district's culture.

The SAFE practice is built on four key pillars:

  • Fostering authentic relationships with students and families, building trust through mutual respect and non-judgment.

  • Recognizing all students as leaders deserving of love and empowerment and championing their brilliance.

  • Celebrating each student's identity and individuality, valuing the whole student, including their background and origins.

  • Building student self-efficacy by providing space for independent and collaborative problem-solving.

Our SAFE Specialists embody these pillars through various initiatives:

  • Sharing leadership with Administration to promote belongingness, including advocating for anti-racist policies.

  • Creating and maintaining safe spaces for students of color.

  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary professionals to empower students and families.

  • Cultivating relationships between families and staff to foster authentic partnerships.

  • Providing leadership opportunities for students, such as the Latino Student Union (LSU) and the Black Student Union (BSU).

  • Partnering with community services and organizations to amplify their impact on families and students.

SAFE Specialists are always ready to support staff in problem-solving or bridging connections with families and students. They play a vital role in ensuring that our engagement efforts are meaningful, inclusive, and effective in creating a school environment where every student can thrive.
