Families packed the halls of Sauk Trail Elementary School on Thursday for their annual STEAM Night, an event that has become a cherished tradition for the school community. With approximately 450 attendees, this year's turnout demonstrated strong interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education.
The evening began with a pizza dinner from 5:00 to 5:30 PM, followed by an engaging demonstration by the UW Wonders of Physics team. Families and students then explored over 25 different STEAM activities set up throughout the cafeteria and gymnasium, all facilitated by Sauk Trail staff, student teachers, and community volunteers.
"This is a special night for families because, unlike other events where we ask parents to volunteer, this event is designed for parents to also engage with and enjoy alongside their kids," explained Rebecca Saeman, Math Specialist and Reading Teacher at Sauk Trail Elementary.
The interactive stations offered hands-on learning experiences that encouraged collaboration between parents and children. From robotics demonstrations to art projects incorporating mathematical concepts, the activities showcased the creative and practical applications of STEAM subjects.
The evening concluded with another captivating demonstration from the UW Wonders of Physics team, leaving families inspired and excited about learning. School administrators noted that the event has become eagerly anticipated by students and families alike, with attendance growing each year.
