23 Middleton High School Students Named Semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship Program

Middleton High School (MHS) is proud to announce that 23 of its seniors have been named Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, the highest number among the 120 Wisconsin schools with semifinalists this year. This outstanding achievement reflects the collective efforts of our students, educators, and community in fostering academic excellence.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has recognized these MHS students among over 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide.

Students include: Huda Baloch, Annika Batt, Ethan Bo, Arya Choudhury, Eunice Chung, Benjamin Dyar, Raymond Feinberg, Arya Girirajan, Harry Jin, Eun-Ho Lee, Jesse Mai, Akshay Manna, Ian McGinley, Abhinav Mundas, Venkat Peddinti, Nikhil Quintin, Aydin Rosas, Bodi Russo, Ethan Sanders, Jonathan Schecher, Raghvi Sethi, Li Ying, and Zoey Zinger.

"We are tremendously proud of these 23 outstanding Middleton scholars," said Dr. Dana Monogue, Superintendent of the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. "Their academic excellence and commitment to learning are an inspiration. We look forward to celebrating their continued successes."

To advance to Finalist standing, these Semifinalists must submit a detailed application showcasing their academic records, extracurricular activities, leadership experiences, and honors. Typically, about 95% of Semifinalists advance to Finalist level, with approximately half ultimately selected to receive a National Merit Scholarship. Nearly $26 million in scholarship funds will be awarded, with around 6,870 scholarships available.

MHS Principal Peg Shoemaker added, "These students represent a powerhouse of potential. The Middleton-Cross Plains community is extremely proud of their achievements and excited to see what bright futures lie ahead for our exceptional National Merit Semifinalists."

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, established in 1955, conducts this annual academic competition to honor the nation's scholastic talent and encourage students to develop their abilities to the fullest.

Middleton's Semifinalists will learn in February 2025 if they advance to Finalist level, with National Merit Scholarship winners to be announced from April through July 2025.
