John Becker, a dedicated music teacher at Sauk Trail Elementary, has taken his passion for music beyond the classroom with the release of his latest album, "Time Flies." This collection of 16 original songs, composed over several years, showcases Becker's musical journey and life experiences with a mellow yet jazzy flair.
Recorded in August 2024, "Time Flies" is a testament to Becker’s talent and heartfelt storytelling. Each song is infused with relatability, emotion, and melodic richness, making it easy to listen to and deeply resonant. John not only lends his voice and piano skills, but also plays a couple of other instruments on the tracks.
Laurie Lang, a well-known figure at Sauk Trail for her children’s concerts and community involvement, joins John on the album, providing beautiful acoustic bass lines. Their collaboration is a reflection of their long-standing friendship and mutual respect as musicians.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the album, John shares, “These original songs are a reflection of where I am in this season of life. Over the past twenty years, my wife and I raised our two sons, lost our parents, and experienced many joys, challenges, and blessings. The music, melodies, lyrics, and emotion in the music share what I believe and my love for my wife. I hope this collection of songs brings you peace, joy, hope, and renews your faith.”
John’s love for sharing his passion for music is evident in his daily interactions with his students. Whether he's teaching a new song, guiding a young pianist, or organizing school concerts, John strives to inspire his students through the universal language of music. He believes in the transformative power of music education and seeks to ignite a lifelong love for music in every child. His enthusiasm and dedication create an engaging and nurturing environment where students feel encouraged to explore their musical interests and express themselves creatively.
Before joining MCPASD, John was a full-time professional musician. Now, in his 29th year at the District, he continues to uphold his passion for creating and performing high-quality music. His commitment to his students and community has made a lasting impact, nurturing a new generation of music lovers and performers.
