The safety of our students, both in and out of school, is a priority for our district, which is why MPCASD is participating in the "Be SMART" campaign.
The campaign is a framework developed by the 'Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America' organization to open the conversation about gun safety.
Currently, about 4.6 million children in America live in homes with guns left loaded and left unlocked.
The "Be Smart" campaign outlines the main points of gun safety in the home:
Secure all guns in your home and vehicle
Model responsible behavior around guns
Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes
Recognize the role of guns in suicide
Tell your peers to be SMART
Over the next few weeks, the district will break down each letter of the "SMART" acronym by sharing helpful resources and tips.
You can learn more about the 'Be SMART' campaign in the informational sheet here or visit the 'Be Smart' website.
