posters

Kromrey Middle School’s Youth Empowerment Club – a group of 20 eighth graders – carried out its first service project: decorating the school with posters featuring uplifting messages.

One of the club’s core principles is for members to consider how to better themselves and contribute to society. The goals of the club include empowering its members to become active agents of social change by creating and implementing service projects for the betterment of their families, school, and community.

groupClub members decided to create posters to share what they were learning in the club with their peers. The posters highlight themes including:

  • how to uplift and bring joy to the hearts of others

  • how to overcome feelings of jealousy and envy and to instead see the value in cooperation

  • how to choose noble goals, aspirations, and professions in life that will benefit others

  • how to make wealth and material goods tools for a higher end instead of the object of one's life

  • sources of true happiness attributes that we need to develop and excel to be successful in life

  • the meaning and signs of true love and friendship

Kromrey Middle School teacher and club advisor Shirin Shaker said the club has displayed 11 posters around the school with more to come.

“We hope everyone enjoys them and they stimulate some meaningful conversation amongst adults and among the students,” Ms. Shaker said.
