June marks the celebration of Pride Month, and we are thrilled to introduce you to Alex, an extraordinary student at Kromrey Middle School who is making a significant impact in our District! Alex identifies with she/her/hers pronouns and is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and equality. This year, she has reached a noteworthy milestone by becoming one of only two students in our District selected as a representative to raise the Pride flag at our District Services Center. She feels incredibly honored to be a part of this change and to have the opportunity to represent not just her school but the entire District.
The Importance of Recognition
For Alex, Pride Month is a time when the LGBTQ+ community can shine bright and be who they truly are. She feels It's essential for everyone to have the opportunity to express themselves without fear of judgment or discrimination. By being chosen as a representative, Alex hopes to inspire others and show that it is possible to create a more inclusive and equal environment in the district.
Overcoming Shame and Finding Support
Alex encourages everyone to embrace their identity and not feel ashamed of who they are. She acknowledges that it can be challenging to find a safe space, but she is grateful for the support she receives from her school and family. Alex is also part of GLAM - Gender, Love, and More at Kromrey, which she calls her safe space. This support system helps her feel like she belongs and reminds her that she is not alone in her journey.
Advancing Together
As we progress through Pride Month, let's commemorate the accomplishments of students like Alex and acknowledge the significance of fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. United in our efforts, we can strive towards a world where everyone can embrace their true selves without fear or judgment.
