Middleton High School's Model UN Club Shines at CAIMUN Conference in Vancouver, Awards Won by Crystal Huang, Luke Rogers, and Harper Patenaude

The Model United Nations Club from Middleton High School embarked on a journey to Vancouver, British Columbia, from March 1st-4th. The purpose of their trip was to participate in the highly anticipated Canada International Model United Nations Conference (CAIMUN). With excitement and enthusiasm, student delegates engaged in various committees, including the European Union, International Criminal Police Organization, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, US Senate, 1543 Japan (Sengoku Jidai), Three Kingdoms Era of Ancient China, and Press Corps.

The conference tackled pressing global issues, ranging from combatting arms trafficking, predictive policing, common security and counter-terrorism, to protecting refugee children, addressing internal displacement, the opioid crisis, and artificial intelligence regulations. Notably, the exceptional performances of Crystal Huang (sophomore), Luke Rogers (junior), and Harper Patenaude (senior) in their respective committees earned them individual awards, showcasing the club's commendable dedication and talent.

Aside from the conference proceedings, the students had the privilege of listening to esteemed personalities such as Kennedy Stewart, a former Vancouver mayor and member of Parliament. Additionally, they explored the downtown Vancouver area, further immersing themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of the city.

Looking ahead, the Model UN Club is preparing for their upcoming trips to WHSMUN at UW-Madison, scheduled for March 21-22, and NUMUN at Northwestern University, taking place from April 11-14. These conferences will undoubtedly provide new opportunities for growth and learning.

For those interested in joining the Model UN Club, meetings are held every Monday from 4:00-5:00 pm in the MHS North LMC. The club regularly attends conferences across North America, and new members are welcome to join at any point throughout the year.
