If you like working with students and have some free time available, the District and the United Way have positions that might interest you.
The Schools of Hope AmeriCorps Project is currently recruiting AmeriCorps members to fill positions at Northside and Sauk Trail elementary schools. The AmeriCorps mission is to work with school staff to increase the literacy skills of students of color and those from low-income families.
AmeriCorps members serve as both a literacy tutor as well as a tutor coordinator at local elementary schools around Dane County.
Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of ($1,089 a month and are eligible for health insurance. They also sometimes receive child care assistance. Upon successful completion of a term of service, members receive an education award of $5,730. AmeriCorps members over the age of 55, may transfer their education award to a child or grandchild.
Part-time positions may be available, co-director Karen Dischler said.
"This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the academic success of the community’s children while using your community building, education and project management skills,'' she said.
