Sauk Trail students in kindergarten through third grade experienced a unique musical opportunity this year with four visits by members of the Madison Symphony Orchestra.
“Up Close and Musical” is the Madison Symphony Orchestra’s educational program in which orchestra members visit each classroom, teaching such themes as melody, expression, rhythm, and form.
Music performed by the Hunt String Quartet from the Madison Symphony includes such iconic music as the “Habanera” from Carmen and “Spring” from “The Four Seasons.” The culminating event of the residency is all students hearing a spring concert performed by the entire orchestra at the Overture Center.
“This is a really inspiring experience for our students at Sauk Trail, and the visiting teaching musicians work with our kids in a very engaging way,” Sauk Trail music teacher John Becker said. “Thanks to the Madison Symphony Orchestra and all of their generous sponsors in supporting this program, and to our Sauk Trail PTO in funding the field trip for students to attend the final concert at the Overture Center.”
