Approximately 250 members of the Class of 2017 participated in the District's second annual Senior Walk on Friday, June 2.

The seniors were invited to return to the elementary school they attended in the District at 2 p.m. with current elementary students and staff lining the hallways. All six District elementary schools participated in the Senior Walk, communications director Perry Hibner said.

Students who didn't attend a District elementary school were invited to attend any of the six elementary schools and participate, Hibner said. St. Francis Xavier in Cross Plains also participated for the second consecutive year.

"This is a great event,'' said Leeanne Hallquist, a former Board of Education member whose son, Erik, participated this year at Elm Lawn. "I am so glad the District is making this an annual event.''

Hibner's daughter, Katherine, participated in the inaugural event in 2016 at Northside. More than 200 students participated in 2016.

"I've heard from her and many other graduates who said they enjoyed the Senior Walk even more than the graduation ceremony,'' Hibner said. "And I know the elementary students and staff love it, too.''

Hibner said the District plans to continue the Senior Walk. There have been discussions about also having graduates walk at both middle schools, although he said there would be challenges getting all of thte students to just two schools. He also said it would be difficult to do six elementary walks at 2 and finish the middle school walks before the school day ends at 3:36 p.m.

The Class of 2017 graduated on Sunday, June 4 at the Alliant Energy Center.
