MHS top STEM school in Niche rankings

Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District and its schools once again scored exceptionally high in the 2019 rankings that were released earlier in August of the best public schools in Wisconsin.

Middleton High School was ranked No. 1 out of 180 schools in the state for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) offerings.

MHS was also ranked sixth out of 467 schools overall in Wisconsin. MHS was the top high school in Dane County. Madison West (seventh) and Madison Memorial (ninth) were the only other Dane County or Big Eight schools ranked in the top 10.

It was the third consecutive year MHS has been ranked sixth among all public high schools in Wisconsin. MHS has been ranked in the top 10 every since year 2014, including being named the top public high school in the state in 2014.

MHS received an A overall ranking. It received A+ grades in academics, clubs and activities, and college prep. It received an A grade for teachers, a B+ for health and safety and a B for diversity.

MCPASD was ranked seventh among all districts in Wisconsin. The only other districts to rank in the top 50 in Dane County were Waunakee (sixth), Sun Prairie (25th), Monona Grove (29th), Oregon (42th), Belleville (43rd), Mount Horeb (45th) and Verona (50th).

MCPASD has placed in the top 10 every year since started releasing the rankings in 2014. The District received A+ marks in clubs and activities, and college prep. It received A marks for teachers, academics, and health and safety. It ranked 17th out of nearly 380 public schools in Wisconsin for best places to teach. It also ranked second in the state out of nearly 370 districts in athletics.

Kromrey was ranked the 12th best public middle school in Wisconsin, while Glacier Creek was ranked 14th. The only other Dane County middle schools ranked in the top 50 were Waunakee Intermediate School (ninth) and Hamilton Middle School 40th) in the Madison Metropolitan School District. There were 560 middle schools ranked in Wisconsin.

Kromrey received an A overall grade. It received A marks in academics and for teachers and a B+ for diversity. Glacier Creek also received an A overall grade. It received an A+ mark fo teachers an A for academics and a B- for diversity.

All six District elementary schools -- Sunset Ridge (16th), Elm Lawn (22nd), Northside (34th), West Middleton (43rd), Sauk Trail (53rd) and Park (89th) were among the top 11 overall rated elementary schools in Dane County. The others were Arboretum School and Prairie Elementary School in Waunakee, Van Hise and Shorewood Hills in Madison Metropolitan and Winnequah in Monona Grove.

In all, 1,098 elementary schools in Wisconsin were ranked.
