The Youth Apprenticeship Program offers students the opportunity to connect classroom experiences to a career-based internship under the guidance of an industry mentor.  Students who participate in the youth apprenticeship program benefit from enhanced knowledge of a particular industry with experiential learning to further their knowledge and skills.  Assistance is provided to locate the on-site apprenticeship that best addresses the student's career goals. Apprenticeships are available for both juniors and seniors and they include specialized training in research labs, healthcare facilities, pharmacies, financial institutions, information technology, businesses, construction, manufacturing, and more.  Students may visit https://www.dcsc.org/youth-apprenticeship-checklist and/or https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship/ya-applicants.htm to view all career areas and occupational pathways.  The Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship website highlights which college admission requirements each youth Apprenticeship program fulfills at each UW System campus.

The State of Wisconsin is continuing to annually provide additional youth apprenticeship programs to expand opportunities.  Students will notice on the first link above that Dane County has additional areas that are not associated with official youth apprenticeship programs; however, industry partners support a regional education and training program.  Connect with Dave Thomas, Career & Technical Education Coordinator, for additional details by calling 608-829-9858, email dthomas2@mcpasd.k12.wi.us

Multiple Positions Available in InformationTechnology

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Information Technology (IT) Youth Apprentice (YA) program allows Middleton High School students to work with the MCPASD Technology Department to develop skills related to technology systems, supports, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

During the summer, MCPASD YAs work alongside Technology Department Staff to refresh, repair, and prepare technology systems for the following school year. Students work closely with District Help Desk staff to learn the systems and procedures needed to support teaching and learning at MHS.

The school year gives YAs the chance to work for the MHS Student 1:1 Help Desk during the school day. This work allows students to learn about and support equipment used for teaching and learning at MHS while working alongside a Help Desk Staff Mentor.

The second year of the YA experience gives students the option to learn about Technology Network Infrastructure and Cybersecurity. They will work alongside District System Engineers to learn and practice these concepts.

When students complete the YA experience with the District Technology Department, they will have experiences that prepare them to explore opportunities in the technology field, as well as develop connections with District Staff and resources.
