Kromrey, Elm Lawn students bound for state

A second robotic team made of students from eight Kromrey, Elm Lawn and Northside took second place in the Champions Award at the Badgerland Regional Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Madison College.

The team was one of nine to qualify for the state championships, which will be held Dec. 8 at Appleton East High School. A second MCPASD team made up of Glacier Creek, Sunset Ridge and West Middleton students, also advanced to state.

It is the third year the Idea Builders team has advanced to state. Members of the team are Kromrey sixth-graders Jack Ohly,  Gavin Dietz, Jonathan Kortbein, Egan Johnson, Adam Hanson, Elm Lawn fourth-grader Lydia Hanson, Northside fourth-grader Erin Gonter and Elm Lawn third-grader Riley Johnson. Adam Hoerl, who doesn't attend a District school, is also a member of the team.

The regional tournament is sanctioned by First Lego League in association with BadgerBots. There Madison Tournament also has nearly 180 photos available from Saturday's competition.  

Another MCPASD team, The Awesome Cheeseheads, won first place in the Robot Performance Award, while Robotamy captured a Judge's Award although neither team advanced to state. Five teams and approximately 60 District students participated in the competition, according to the regional director.
