Busy week for District orchestra students

The MCPASD strings program will give their first series of concerts this week.

On Monday, Nov. 18 at 7 pm in the Middleton Performing Arts Center, orchestras from Kromrey Middle School and three elementary schools -- Elm Lawn, Northside and Sauk Trail -- will perform. The MHS Symphony Orchestra will close the program.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 pm in the PAC, orchestras from Glacier Creek Middle School and Park, Sunset Ridge and West Middleton elementary schools will perform. The MHS Cardinal Orchestra will close the program.

The MHS orchestras will officially kick off their 2013-14 season with their Fall Orchestra Concert on Thursday, Nov.r 21 at 7:30 pm in the PAC. Cardinal Orchestra, Philomusica -- the after-school pops string group -- and Symphony Orchestra will perform. Members of the Wind Ensemble will join the Symphony Orchestra to close out the program.

Selections include Danzas de Panama by Still, Serenade by Reinecke, Kuhreigen und Bauerntanz by Grieg, Toccata by “Frescobaldi” and Pavane by Fauré. Also on the program will be student teachers Jim Castaneda and Ben Ferris making their official conducting debuts. A reception will follow the concert.

All of the concerts are expected to last 90-120 minutes. The concerts are free and the public is invited to attend.
