Kari Saunders, who has been with the District since 2002 and the 4K and early childhood principal since 2012, announced recently that she has resigned to take over as principal at Chegwin Elementary School in Fond du Lac.

Saunders worked for five years as a special education teacher at Middleton  High School before filling the role of intervention resource/support teacher at Northside and Park for the 2007-08 school year. She became the District's student services coordinator in 2008-09 and held that position before taking over as 4K principal and early childhood coordinator.

"I want to thank Kari for her great years of service in MCPASD,'' Superintendent George Mavroulis said. "Our 4K program flourished through her leadership.''

The District didn't have a 4K program before Saunders took over the position.

She was a key contributor to the growth and development of the 4K program as she coordinated and visited sites on a regular basis, bringing in programs such as Nurtured Heart to better serve students as they began their educational journey in MCPASD.

Saunders, an advocate for equity and serving disadvantaged students, said she is excited to begin her work at Chegwin, where more than 75 percent of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.

"MCPASD has allowed me the opportunity to work with a vast amount of incredible students and staff who have taught me valuable lessons in friendship, collaboration and equity that I can bring with me to my new position,'' she said.

She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Edgewood College in 2002 and her master's degree in education from Edgewood College in 2004.
