Northside principal Duy Nguyen has accepted the position of MCPASD Director of Elementary Education, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
The School Board approved Nguyen's new position at its developmental meeting on May 3. He will replace Rainey Briggs, who last month was named the superintendent of the Baraboo Area School District.
"My time at Northside has revealed to me that collaborating around a compelling vision can lead to strong outcomes for our students and staff,'' Nguyen said. "It has also let me know how dedicated and passionate the staff is within our District. I will take everything I have learned from the students, staff, and families from Northside into my new role as I continue to advocate for the well-being and academic growth of all of our learners."
Nguyen was named principal at Northside in June 2018. He spent the previous two years as principal at Hawthorne LAB School in Waukesha. Nguyen worked for 12 years as a teacher in kindergarten, first and second grade. He also served as a learning coordinator at a Madison elementary school.
He also has spent several summers teaching middle and high school students in China. He was a librarian in Ecuador before heading to New York City to do graduate work at Teachers College at Columbia University.
He has a bachelor's degree from UW-Madison and master's degrees from Teachers College and UW-Madison.
The District will begin a search for his replacement immediately. More information about opportunities for the school community to be involved in the process will be shared at a later date.
