Five MHS saxophone players -- seniors Max Newcomer and Lucy Croasdale and juniors Jonathan Downs, Amanda Roesch and Andrew Stine -- were recently featured in the Wisconsin State Journal.

The students, who are members of the MHS Seven O'Clock Jazz Band, will also be participating in last Jazz at Five of the season. They will perform Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. at the top of State Street near the Wisconisn Capitol. The event is free.

Due to persistent rains, the Jazz at Five event was relocated to The Coliseum Bar.

"The students played for a large and enthusiastic audience,'' Sarah Stine said. "Many thanks to Laurie Lang for organizing, and to MHS band directors Doug Brown, Mike VerVoort and Eric Rothaker for teaching and inspiring our students each day.''

The article appeared on Monday, Sept. 3 in the weeky School Spotlight feature the State Journal runs.

Laurie Lang, a professional bass player, educator and mother of Croasdale, learned about a possible opening to play at Jazz at Five and has been rehearsing with the students this summer.
