District looking for bus drivers

Printer-friendly version

The District is looking to add regular and substitute bus drivers who will work with children of all age levels for the 2019-20 school year.

Pay starts at $18.75 an hour and goes up to $21.67 an hour depending on experience. Special trips, which include field trips and athletic events, are currently paid out at $15 an hour.

Prospective drivers need a commercial driver's license and can have up to one moving violation in the past three years. Hours are also flexible. The District will train anyone interested in filling a position. Once certified you could be assigned a regular route or you could be added to the District's substitute list.

Additional benefits, including health insurance, are also available for drivers who meet minimum hours requirements. There are also additional work opportunities in the District for drivers looking for more hours.

What does it take to become a certified bus driver?

  • A short conversation with Transportation Services Director Jeff Fedler.
  • Approximately 10-20 hours to study for and pass the Department of Transportation written tests.
  • A medical exam.
  • Twenty hours of behind-the-wheel training once you have your permit.
  • A conversation with Fedler about your driving schedule and availability

Application information is available on the District website. If you have other questions, please contact Fedler at 608-829-2365.
