More than 30 MHS DECA members competed at a mini-competition held at MHS on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The students took a marketing exam and then performed a role play that mirrored scenarios from the business world. The students earned medals based on their performance and the top scorer overall received a trophy and was named Series Champion.

"One of my officers, Reshma Gali, wanted to hold a competition just for Middleton High School members to help prepare them for Districts in January," said DECA club adviser Robert Hutchison said. "I thought it was a great idea so we made it happen,"

Medal winners were Ashley Biwott, Payton Dower, Sydney Helt, Marie Mayers, Samantha Meister, Zinnia Nie, Poojha Prabahara Sundar, Allison Richards, Emily Ross, Elizabeth Schink, and Erika Thomas.

Ashley Biwott was named Series Champion because of her outstanding performance on both events.

Local business people served as judges for the role plays and Chick-fil-A West Towne provided lunch for all the students and judges.

"It was great to see so many students participate. Hopefully this experience will help them perform well at Districts in January," Hutchison said.  "We will definitely look at making this an annual event."
