MHS Orchestra will present the annual Mike Dewey Concerto Showcase on Thursday,  March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Mike Dewey Concerto-Aria Concert honors the memory of Dewey, an orchestra teacher at MHS from 1982-2000. Dewey was known as a dedicated orchestra teacher who adored his students and loved teaching. Current MHS orchestra teacher Steve Kurr fondly remembers Dewey’s “wonderful sense of humor, love of Star Wars, and jovial nature.”

This popular concert showcases the Concerto-Aria winners performing with the MHS Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Kurr. Music featured will include the Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss and music by Gershwin, Biber, and Marais.

Concerto winners from earlier this year were Jonah Guse on piano and Ellen Zhou on violin. Along with the MHS Symphony Orchestra will be Sinfonia, a sophomore/junior ensemble featuring music by Meyer, Balmages, and jazz violinist Randy Sabien.
