The WIAA Division 1 state champion MHS girls golf and boys cross country teams were recognized on the Wisconsin State Assembly floor on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Rep. Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) sponsored two Assembly Joint Resolutions to congratulate MHS athletes and coaches on their state championships. The girls golf team won the two-day, 36-hole state meet by 13 shots over Brookfield Central at University Ridge on Oct. 14 and 15. It was their third state title and first since 2015. The boys cross country team beat top-ranked Stevens Point by 12 spots to win the state meet at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Nov. 2. It was their second state title in three years
Members of the Assembly and supportive onlookers listened as Rep. Hesselbein spoke before the resolutions were passed.
Assembly Joint Resolution 113 recognized the Middleton High School girls’ golf team including Ellie Frisch, Glenna Sanderson, Makenzie Hodson, Katherine Meier, Milanne Dahmen, Amanda Beckman, and their coaches Becky Halverson and Tom Schmitt.
Assembly Joint Resolution 114 recognized the Middleton High School boys’ cross country team including Aniket Ahuja, Griffin Ward, Ryan Schollmeyer, Zach Leffel, Egan Johnson, Braedon Gilles, Peter Hoferle, Ethan Mladucky, Ian Bohachek, Thomas Blumer, and their coaches Brian Finnel, Andy Hartman, Alexa Richardson, Joe Prestigiacomo, Brad Meyer, Zach Shoemaker-Allen, and Lauren Dilley.
“It was such an honor to sponsor these two Joint Resolutions on the floor today. I am so proud of these athletes, and have confidence that they all have bright futures ahead. Go Cardinals!” Hesselbein said.
The teams were welcomed to the floor with a standing ovation as the resolutions passed unanimously.
