Students in the Principles of Literacy classes caught a closer look at nature recently.
MHS has partnered with the Pheasant Branch Conservancy and their naturalists for a literacy project that involves writing about nature. Students received instruction on Wednesday from three different naturalists, who taught them what to notice in nature and how to write about their observations.
Students spent time journaling, and noted observations in their notebooks such as time, date, weather, and then specific details about the area of the Conservancy they were working in. Naturalists also instructed the students on how to "adopt a tree" and students enjoyed writing notes about their tree, even getting to give it a creative name.
Students will continue to spend time in the conservancy in the upcoming weeks, where they will elaborate on observations and develop ideas about what they observe in their nature journals.
