The MHS girls snowboard team captured its fourth consecutive WIARA state championship on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Mount La Crosse.
The Cardinals finished with 104 points. Waunakee finished second with 137 points. Six teams competed at the state meet, which consisted of the slalom, giant slalom and boardercross.
MHS had three girls place in the top 10. Sophomore Ella D'Orazio finished third overall. Her best finish was second in the slalom. She also finished fourth in the giant slalom. Junior Eden Larson finished eighth overall, including sixth in the slalom. Emma Chandler was 10th overall.
The MHS boys snowboard team finished fifth out of nine teams at state. The Cardinals were the top finisher among Southern Conference teams competing at state. West Bend captured the state title.
Junior Dylan Veit took first place in boardercross and second the giant slalom and finished third overall.
The MHS boys ski team finished sixth in the 21-team state championships, which were held on Sunday and Monday. That is one spot better than the Cardinals finished in 2019. MHS was also the top finisher among Southern Conference teams competing at state. Hartland Arrowead won the state title by more than 200 points over Kettle Moraine. The meet consisted of the slalom, giant slalom and super-G.
Griffin Ward finished sixth in the giant slalom, earning him an invitation to the Eastern National Championships in New Hampshire next month. Ward finished 14th overall.
The boys and girls snowboard teams each captured the Southern Conference championship this season. D'Orazio was the girls MVP, while Veit was the boys MVP.
