Nineteen MHS DECA members recently competed at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), which was held virtually due to the pandemic, and junior Aarush Jain finished fifth in business finance.

For the competition, the students recorded a video of themselves solving a business/marketing-related issue and took a multiple choice exam based on business and marketing related concepts.

Besides Jain, two other MHS DECA members earned a medal based on their performance on the role plays: Sophomore Varsha Gouraram (Apparel and Accessories) and junior Rohan Kommuri (Marketing Communications).

"It was great to see these students earn medals at the highest level of competition, especially since this was their first time competing at ICDC,'' MHS DECA adviser Robert Hutcison said. "It just shows how talented they are."

Jain earned another medal for making it into Finals. By advancing to the Finals, he  also performed a live role play via Zoom with a volunteer acting as the judge.

Jain earned another medal for his live role play and finished fifth.

"For Aarush to take fifth place out of 150 competitors in his series just shows you how much he prepared for the competition,'' Hutchison said. "He is a well-decorated DECA competitor and this was a great way to finish the year."
