Class of 2020 Drive-Up event finalized

Printer-friendly version

The District will hold a Drive-Up Graduation Ceremony for members of the Class of 2020 at Middleton High School from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.

The event will take place, rain or shine, and will be livestreamed. You can access the livestream by clicking on the embedded video link immediately below. If you can't watch the event live, an archived video of the ceremony will also be available once it is completed.

A virtual graduation ceremony video will also be shared with Class of 2020 members and their families. It will also be available on the District, MHS and CSCS websites along with the MCPASD YouTube Channel. It includes speeches from class members, remarks from CSCS principal Jill Gurtner, MHS principal Peg Shoemaker and Superintendent Dana Monogue and the names and photos of every graduate. The District hopes to have the video ready for distribution on July 25.

A professional photographer will be on site to take photos of graduates with their diplomas. Each student will receive a proof of their photo and will also receive a promo code for one free 5x7 of their choice courtesy of the District. We are asking all participants to wear their cap and gown to the event.

In order to have a smooth, enjoyable and safe celebration, here are the instructions the District is asking all grautes and their families to abide by:

  • Enter from Park Street into the parking lot adjacent to the Walter Bauman Aquatic Center. Continue through the marked pathway through the parking lot onto Bristol Street and then enter the the MHS parking lot adjacent to the bus lane.
  • Write the name of your student on an 8.5x11 piece of paper in bold, ledgible writing and display in the vehicle window so we may identify you before the pickup area.
  • As you approach the pick-up area, roll down the window by the graduate and have them prepare to accept their diploma. We ask that you do not exit the vehicle at this point.
  • Continue on to the photo station. Graduates can then exit the vehicle and have their picture taken with their diploma by our professional photographer if they so choose. Please have your diploma cover ready as you exit the vehicle to keep the photo line moving.

To help manage the traffic flow in an orderly manner, please use the schedule for last names below:

  • A-F: 1 to 2 p.m.
  • G-L: 2 to 3 p.m.
  • M-R: 3 to 4 p.m.
  • S-Z: 4 to 5 p.m.

If you will not be participating in the ceremony, your diploma and any applicable academic awards will be sent to your homes.

Director of Communication Perry Hibner noted in an email to graduates and their families last week that the District had hoped to be able to hold an in-person ceremony at Breitenbach Stadium on July 25, but with Public Health Madison & Dane County’s recent order limiting outdoor gatherings to 25 people or fewer it was deemed impossible to make such an event work.
