MHS Theatre received six Jerry Awards for their production of "The Addams Family" this spring, the Overture Center announced recently.
The Jerry Awards encourage, recognize and honor excellence in high school musical theater from around the state. The Jerry Awards Show were held on June 9 at the Overture Center in Madison.
Jerry Award winners included:
Outstanding leading performance: Ben Fagre (Gomez Addams)
Outstanding dance performance: Cindy Stefanek
Outstanding costume design: Kyia Gundlach, Jennifer Harless, Lily Pritchard, Claire Weigert
The musical was performed May 2-4 at the Performing Arts Center.
More than 85 schools from 30 counties around Wisconsin participate in the Jerry Awards.
The awards are named after local philanthropist and arts supporter W. Jerome Frautschi. He is a fifth-generation Madisonian who, along with his wife, Pleasant Rowland, pledged $50 million in 1997 to build the Overture Center. He pledged another $50 million two years later. He has donated $205 million for the Center -- the largest single gift to the arts in American history to date.
The awards were previously named for local Broadway star Tom Wopat.
