A District team of seven students in seventh and eighth grade won the Mega Math Meet for students in those grades on May 22 at Madison College.
The team was comprised of Ian Lam, Roddy McLellan, Grace and Kevin Wu, Josh Chen, Kaitlyn Ko, Dheeraj Pasikanti and Caleb Sanders.
Another team of students in fifth and sixth grade took first place at the Mega Math Meet for students in those grades on May 20 at UW-Madison. The team was comprised of Amogh Akella, Micah Friedman, Miles Gustafson, Kavya Kashyap, Harry Jin, Shreya Ramesh and Li Ying.
Ying also took first place in the individual competition, while Akella placed third.
The students qualified through regional meets earlier in the school year. The Mega Math Meet involves students from all over southern Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, more than 30 middle school students placed in the top 10 for the Yahara River Writers Contest and attended a special ceremony at Union South on the UW-Madison campus on Tuesday, May 14. These students wrote poems -- some in Spanish -- short stories, editorials or created cartoons or other art work for divider pages. Thousands of students from all over southern Wisconsin submit work to this anthology.
