Middle school music students to perform

Sixteen District middle school students are scheduled to perform at this year’s Wisconsin State Music Association’s Middle Level Honors Program and concerts.

These students auditioned and were selected last school year. The ensembles are set to reconvene Oct. 25-26 to perform and celebrate their achievements.

Each year, around 1,100 auditions occur all over the state for the 311 available positions in grades 6-8 in the Middle Level Honors State Music Project.

From Glacier Creek: Will Bush, trombone; Jahnvi Datta, violin; Ellis Goeden, percussion; Aditya Gupta, trumpet; Laina Gustafson, horn; Kaitlyn McIntosh, violin.  

From Kromrey: Gus Balasubramaniam, bassoon; Flynn Ewer, horn; Anna Gruett, clarinet; Zoe Gureno, percussion; Michael Janairo, percussion; Jackie Lanear, bass clarinet; Craig Nielsen, string bass; Ariya Shah, flute; Alex Weiss, horn; Kevin Zhang, flute

The students will do group rehearsals and sectionals for more than 7 hours on Friday. A dress rehearsal will take place on Saturday morning. The concert schedule is:

  • Band concert, 1 p.m.
  • Orchestra concert, 2 p.m.
  • Choir concert, 3 p.m.

The concerts will take place at the Waunakee High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $16 and avaiable at the door. A ticket can be used to attend any or all of the three separate concerts. Learn more on the WSMA Music website.
