PBIS Overview

What is PBIS?

PBIS is a behavior support program that recognizes the positive contributions of students. The main goal is to help each child develop self-discipline to make good choices.

PBIS focuses on improving positive behavior for all students. Common routines and uniform language with respect to appropriate school behaviors are consistent throughout the school. As a result, instructional time is more effectively used for teaching and the overall school environment is calm, pleasant and conducive to learning.

At Glacier Creek, the E3 Guidelines for Success lay the foundation for student expectations in all school settings. This is the Saber Way.

Why Does GCMS Need PBIS?

Over 800 schools in the state of Wisconsin have adopted PBIS.  Middleton-Cross Plains has adopted the program as a district initiative to give students expectations of positive behaviors. Each school within the district has tapered the program to meet its own needs.  A PBIS team has been formed at each school to ensure consistent implementation of the positive behavior interventions and support system.

Positive Motivations

Each week students will be recognized by their demonstration of outstanding behavior.  Some examples of these incentives and acknowledgements include: Positive referrals, all school assemblies, participation in school assemblies, tier one, two, or three prizes (donated by staff and parents), sitting in a teacher’s chair, positive call home, weekly prize drawing, front of the lunch line, free cookie, dismiss to lunch early, giving and donating activity.

Any citizens or organizations interested in donating prizes are welcome to do so.  Please contact PBIS team members Rick KistingTim Ashe, or Ken Metz.
