Students fare well at Regional Math Meets

Nearly 50 District middle school students participated in one of two Regional Math Meets this week along with teams from Madison, Sun Prairie and Verona.

On Tuesday, 24 students in grades 5-6 competed at Madison College. The MCPASD team of Grace Wu, Nathan Kwon, Nicholas Olson, Iam Lam, Krish Parikh, Aaron Dunk, Dhruv Prakash and Caleb Sanders took second place, while  Parikh finished third individually. The team qualified for the Mega Math Meet for grades 5-6 to be held on May 18 at UW-Madison.

On Wednesday, 24 students in grades 7-8 competed at Madison College. The MCPASD team of Harsha Chilakapati, Aarush Jain, Mia Burkholder, Franklin Hu, Samantha Burkard, Ian Bohacheck, Zinnia Nie and Akshita Pattnaik took first place and advanced to the Mega Math Meet for grades 7-8, which will take place on May 23 at Madison College. 

Jonah Guse placed first individuall, while Hansen Jin was fourth and Aarush Jain fifth.

"Special thanks to teachers Matt Hayden, Brian Stubbe, Jay Larson, Amy Weber, Sonja Hungness and Sue Brumm for helping out with these meets to all the math teachers who work to challenge students every day,'' Advanced Learning specialist Ruth Frawley said.
