Residents interested in running for the Board of Education can obtain forms for the 2018 spring election now at the District Services Center, 7106 South Ave., Middleton.
Forms can be obtained from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Nomination papers and a declaration of candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2 in the office of the school district clerk located at the DSC.
Candidates are required to obtain a minimum of 100 signatures, including valid addresses within the District boundaries, on their nomination papers.
The general election will take place on Tuesday, April 3. If a primary is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
There are three seats open this year: Area II, which includes the Village of Cross Plains; Area IV, which includes the City of Middleton, the Town of Westport, and portions of the Town of Middleton; and Area V, which goes south from Schneider Road to Old Sauk Road and west from Pleasant View Road to Enchanted Valley Road.
The incumbents in those areas are Sean Hyland (Area II), Linda Yu (Area IV) and Anne Bauer (Area IV).
Each year, three Board of Education seats are up for election. Residents are able to vote for each of the Board of Education seats, rather than only the one from their area. Board members are scheduled to begin their duties at the regular meeting on Monday, April 23.
The MCPASD Board of Education consists of nine citizens from specific geographic areas of the District, who serve a term of three years and/or until their successors are elected and qualified. Terms are arranged so that three new seats are open for election each year. Board of Education members are selected from specific geographic areas, but represent the District as a whole.
